INTRODUCTION Malaysian Churches have relied mainly on foreign songs for their worship services At the moment there are not many successful local albums which have sold similar quantities like Hill songs or Hosanna albums However this does not mean God is not moving in our local churches What is happening is that Malaysian songwriters have not risen to the occasion to write of what God is doing in their churches On the other hand local Pastors have not encouraged their people to write They have given more preference to foreign songs This is the sad state of affairs of Malaysian songs It is about time things begin to change and Malaysian songwriters rise up and begin to write anointed songs that will touch the world Here are my 20 checklists for song writers 1Christian songwriting is a partnership Inspiration Gods part 10 Perspiration Man part 90 Listen extensively to various types of music Learn and practice the different styles Practice writing Refine the lyrics Get your friends opinion Communication Goal 2Communication is the goal Does your song have a message you want to communicate If you do not have a message you should not be writing your song 3Form or structure the foundation stone Analyze your song for form AABA ABAB ABABC AAAA Make a framework for your song Define your verse chorus and bridge A Verse B Chorus C bridge Eg ABAB Because He lives AAAA - Many hymns like Stand up for Jesus All to Jesus I surrender ABABC God is good all the time The Happy Song 4Make your point and stick to it A song should only have one clear message Dont wander from this message You cannot share about the birth life death and resurrection of Jesus all in one song unless it is a story on the life of Jesus Have
