From a theological perspective what is your position regarding divorce For a Catholic the preparation of marriage involves even more than understanding the laws of matrimony and applying for a marriage license In the church and in my opinion marriage is more than a legal contract It is also a scared covenant an agreement or pact not only between the man and the woman but also between the couple and God Adams At weddings couples join their right hands and exchange vows or sacred promises binding them together They give each other the gift of themselves body and soul They pledge a love that will be lasting in the words of the traditional vows for better or worse until death do us part Accompanying these vows is the exchange of the rings The ring which is a circle has no beginning or end representing the newly married couples love and fidelity for each other Adams Sometimes however the fairy tale comes to an end and the once happily ever after couple decides to go there separate ways There are many reasons as to why a couple gets divorced but I think that divorce often happens as a result of things that just build up over time If a couple is really serious about marriage then from the beginning they should be willing to put forth every effort to make it work I have witnessed the effects of an unhealthy marriage and have experienced the relief of divorce My parents are from diverse denominations and both view divorce differently For my father it was a separation from something that made him unhappy and for my mother who is also Catholic it was an opportunity for her to get herself and her children out of an unhealthy environment I agree that divorce affects many Christians and I think having a Roman Catholic background has really opened my eyes to a lot of the
