In India there used to exist a system known as the caste system It was confined to India The Caste System is and was not found in any other part of the world The extreme social segmentation which it caused was just another part of Indias culture Along with being part of Indias culture it was also very closely intertwined with their Hindu religion The Caste System is first looked upon as a few groups of social segregation but looking closer you will find that there were over 2000 different groups that this culture and religion had the country divided into Within the different levels of the system a caste is a way of union a bond to the people within it Marriage between people who belonged to different castes Not only did it effect marriage and relationships it also prohibitted eating drinking and even smoking together This was a way of preventing social mixing and problems among the other groups The caste system united and divided thousands of groups Different castes simply disreguard others outside of theirs and this was a main feature The system does not however prevent friendship within the different castes although it was much more likely to find it among people of their own groupings The principle that all men are equal did not apply to India for it was looked as if it was not possible as a result of the groupings The different castes rank as high or low according to the degree of honor in which they are held by the Hindu community as a whole This was determined by the Brahman who forms as it were the pyramid in which other castes are put into layers A man belongs to and remains till death in the caste in which he is born The position of each individual is fixed by their heredity and not by personal qualifications or material
