The first amendment to the Constitution contends Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech or of the press Censorship by definition is the suppression of published or broadcast material to the public People have fought and died for the right to hear read and see anything and everything that is available Our right however goes beyond that we have the full right to publish and broadcast material even though it is controversial We should not have this right taken away through censorship of material that is not only for pleasure but also for knowledge The censorship of forms of media is an infringement on the rights of citizens The government was not formed to parent the youth of America by setting the guidelines of what is appropriate for them to hear and see but to guarantee the rights provided by the Constitution of the United States We build society by a collaboration of the peoples morals ideas and opinions Society cannot thrive and progress if censorship dominates because it will give society an illusion that the world has no problems hinder peoples right to opinions and prevent new ideas from developing Society should not have the illusion which censorship creates that the world is perfect and that there are not any problems Problems need to be faced and not hidden behind the heavy curtain of ignorance Bad is inseparable part of good You have to experience both in order to make distinction between them Society should be given the chance to know the real situation and decide what to do based on reality and not on its beautiful mask Thus the general opinion that lack of censorship means ignorance and carelessness about the well being and morality of people contradicts with the results of the careless and ignorant way by which some topics are defined as taboos and are avoided through censoring Such things for example are love specifically sex
