European Fascism in the Twentieth CenturyThe twentieth century in Europe has been a tumultuous time Never before has one century been filled with such constant fast and radical change Over the last ninety-five years Europe has seen itself at both ends of the spectrum The century started with Europe and its culture at a zenith and has since seen some of the darkest days of hell Two World Wars and numerous other small conflicts have left a big impression on Europe as have the many national leaders throughout the century Social changes border changes and governmental changes have marked the century as 1995 European landscape looks nothing like that of 1900 The countries that had the biggest influence on European society changed constantly throughout the period The twentieth century was at the least an eventful and historically intriguing time The twentieth century also was a very tumultuous time for Germany What began as a relatively stable and peaceful century broke out into war revolution and separation Throughout the century Germany was constantly trying to become the one central power of Europe For a few short periods of time it held that position only to lose it once again The last ninety-five years has been a constant struggle for Germany to assert itself on the continent With its national identity and unity constantly being challenged and torn by western and eastern powers Germany has fought on bravely Now in 1995 the time is again close at hand for Germany to push for central European leadershipIn order to understand where Germany is now one must first understand the events and trends of the twentieth century that has led to this moment The century began in relative peace actually European culture as a whole was at a zenith The arts science and literature were the most advanced in the world European economies also were soaring as the standard of living was rising continuously Europe had a monopoly on
