I chose to discuss Fuji Xerox Singapore and their approach to managing in an effective way The managing director of Fuji Xerox Singapore Koh Ching Hong did the article When he was appointed the managing director of Fuji Xerox Singapore in 1996 and in 1997 Hong had faced a difficult decision because of the recession where he had to cut 40 people or to trim the payroll He told the boss that he would deliver the numbers and to just give him time He really didnt want to have anyone cut because of the fact that they would be jobless Hong told his staff that he would do everything he could even if that meant selling the tables and chairs to the point where they would have to sit on the floor In the same year Hongs focus and commitments to his people paid off as the company delivered a profit This sacrifice to his company energized his work force to the point that they strived to do the best for the company Koh Ching Hong stated that managing believes in management by leadership He uses himself as the champion of his people who have a trusting relationship with him that is built upon mutual respect and bound by common destiny The most important thing to him as a leader is to understand that hes neither a task manager nor a people manager He claims that if you dont lead people then managing wont head in the right direction Because if people see the leadership and they feel trust and confidence in the leadership then the company will grow Hong says When Hong has new hires he talks to them about his thought process on whats right and wrong how things are and his outlook on the company He feels that business isnt just a number game but its also about good communication and dedication of the people behind the team Through his effective ways
