This essay is a report on what really happened when the Allies invaded Nomandy France on the 6th of June 1944 It just says how the Allies progressed up to a certain point and some of the events that happened The Battle of Normandy The 6th of June 2002 marked the 58th anniversary of the Normandy invasion into Nazi Germany by the Allies This battle is also known as D-Day and commenced on the 6th June 1944 This war operation code-named Overlord was one of the largest invasion forces in modern history The Allies decided at the conference in the Canadian city of Quebec in 1943 to take action against Nazi Germany using a large-scale invasion code-named Overlord in the spring of 1944 This invasion was to take place at the French peninsula of Normandy The Nazis were expecting an attack on the northern coast of France Pas de Calais which was nearer Britain The invasion was split up into two sectors the British sector and the American sector The landing operation began during the night between the fifth and sixth of June where many soldiers were parachuted to various locations in Normandy The beach invasion began on the morning of 6th June 1944 between 630am and 730am It consisted of over 135000 British and American soldiers and approximately 20000 vehicles which were transported from Britain to five landing beaches in Normandy The vehicles consisted of specially armoured amphibious bulldozer and mine-clearing tanks These were used to support the Navy and Air force in the bombardment of the Atlantic Wall fortifications After joining up the leftover invasion force which covered an area over 83 km long the operation continued as planned While the British divisions applied pressure towards Caen forcing the Nazis back around the regional capital the Americans proceeded from Utah to wards Barneville The second week of July contained three successes the liberation of Caen the capture of
