Jerry a freshman at Midwestern University decided to pledge a popular fraternity on campus As part of initiation week Jerry flagged down a local bus When the bus driver stopped the bus and opened the door Jerry placed his foot on the step tied his shoe and then thanked the driver for the use of his bus The driver angered by this college prank jumped out of the drivers seat and kicked Jerrys foot sending him sprawling to the pavement He slowly attempted to rise to his feet looking for one of his friends to help him up His aching leg throbbed with pain if he put any weight on it The fraternity members watching the stunt couldnt have been having a better time Shortly the laughing students came over to congratulate Jerry He built up his courage and sheepishly asked if they would help him up Smirking they started to lift him up and just as he put all his weight on them for support they let go dropping him once again to the pavement Flushing with anger and embarrassment Jerry told his friends that his leg might be broken They responded that he was just being a baby and that if he expected to join he would have to toughen up Limping heavily Jerry made his way to a phone where he contacted his roommate to pick him up In the emergency room the doctor said that his leg was heavily bruised but that there was no permanent damage and it was not broken Encouraged by these words Jerry entertained the possibility that the fraternity members may have been right and that he had just been scared by the fall Looking back on the day Jerry also decided that once he became a member they would treat him with more respect The next day Jerry boarded the bus to head over to the fraternity house However the bus driver recognized him as the
