Genghis Khan was born with the name Tem circa 1162 in Mongolia He was the first son of Yes who was a tribal chief in a clan called the Borjigin Tems mother was Hoelun who was from the Olkhunut tribe of the Mongol confederation Tem had four brothers and one sister Tem had a difficult early life At age 9 he was left to live with his future wifes family until he was old enough to marry but Yes was poisoned and Tems clan left their rightful chief In later years Tems family lived a life of impovershed nomads and Tem killed his half-brother Bekhter over a fight for food He was also captured in 1182 and if he had not escaped he would have been executed Tem then learned that he would have to make many alliances in order to survive the political climate of Mongolia When he was about 16 Tem married B of the Konkirat tribe but she was kidnapped by the Merkit tribe With the help of his friend Jamuka Tem rescued her Tem and Borte had four sons Jochi whose parentage is questionable Chagatai and Tolui Tem slowly gained power by making alliances and allying himself with his fathers blood brother Tem defeated the threats of the Kerait tribe and Naimains This left Tem as the ruler of the the Mongol plains All clans and tribes were united and called the Mongols and became they became the Mongol Empire Using his charisma and strong will Tem united all of Central Asia under a single code by 1206 A council of Mongol chiefs named Tem as Khan of the consolidated tribes and he took the title of Genghis Khan Genghis Khan made advances in military disciplines such as mobility psychological warfare intelligence military autonomy and tactics Genghis Khan built an extremely efficient military that was mobile dedicated loyal and intelligent Mongol armies were also known for their fine weapons and
