Nicholas II son of Alexander III was a czar of Russia from 1894 to 1917 At the age of 20 Nicholas made a voyage around world Nicholass father got Nicholas into the state council meetings and soon he acquired the rank of colonel When Nicholas s father died on October 20 1894 Nicholas became emperor One month later Nicholas married Princess Alice of Hesse-Darmsttadt and had one child who soon caught Hemophilia a deadly disease A highly respected monk named Rasputin saved his sons life and was named a hero in Russia Nicholass beliefs as a czar were to suppress political oppositions revolutionaries suppress minorities and keep the peace among the lower class Nicholas believed in heavy industry and encouraged the Industrial Boom of 1890 Nine years later the lower class became unhappy with their low wages high work hours that Nicholas forced Numerous strikes assassination attempts and terrorist attacks were happening among his people In the power craze of the 1900s Russia wanted Japans land in order to increase Russias economy Russia and Japan fought the Russo-Japan War over the feud Japan won by defeating much of East Asias military and causing a lot of Russian casualties Nicholass people started rioting again after the loss Father George Gapon led a large group of Catholic workers in front of the Winter Palace one Saturday afternoon to strike about their beliefs They were shot upon by a group of military officials and most of the strikers were either killed or severely injured This was known as Bloody Sunday and began the revolution of 1905 in which millions of angry Russians participated Minister of Finance Sergei Witt induced Nicholas to sign a manifesto promising constitutional government and basic civil liberties such as everyone had the NICHOLAS II- p2 right to vote and fair passing of bills In 1906 Nicholas dissolved the manifesto and Witt was replaced World War 1 started in 1914 and
