The Holy Trinity is one of the most important and key beliefs in our faith The belief in one God who is three persons is a belief that sets us apart from the non-Christian religions in this world However the Trinity is not an easy belief to describe or understand It is the most pure holy and mysterious being that exists We cannot even comprehend the power love holiness and majesty that is present in such a being God does want us to know of its existence though and include many truths about the Trinity in Holy Scripture In fact Holy Scripture is the most important tool we can utilize in order to gain an understanding of this most holy being When we use the Holy Scripture to gain knowledge of the Holy Trinity we must realize there is different ways of describing it depending upon the author The first that we will look at is the Johannine writings The Johannine writings include the Gospel of John the First Letter of John and the book of Revelation In these books we gain a good understanding of Jesus relationship with God Probably one of the best quotes for describing this relationship would be in John 2017 In this verse Jesus tells Mary Magdalene to tell his disciples I am ascending to my Father and your Father to my God and your God This quote shows us first that Jesus in calling God his Father is in unity with him and even equal to him Yet at the same time with his use of my God we also understand that Jesus is obedient to God and recognizes him as a separate entity This obedient but equal relationship is also portrayed in a couple of other passages in John One of these passages would be John 1030 in which Jesus states I and the Father are one He is telling that he and his father joined in
