SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION 11 - AIM The aim of this investigation is to observe and report on a child that attends Calvary Christian College and asses their relative stage of development as determined by Jean Piaget 12 - ENVIRONMENT The child being studied in this investigation CH4 is a preschool student currently attending Calvary Christian College He is an outgoing child and is quite intelligent SECTION 2 REVIEW OF LITERATURE 21 - SCHOOL The subject CH4 attends Calvary Christian College a small private school The schools mission is to provide a distinctly Christian education to strengthen the family and help prepare students to meet the challenges of life 22 PIAGETS THEORY OF COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT Jean Piaget was a famous Swedish psychologist whose studies and theories on cognitive development have had a major impact on child psychology Piaget suggested that children go through four separate stages in a fixed order that is universal in all children These stages are 1 Sensorimotor0-2 years 2 Preoperational2-7 years a Preconceptual2-4 years b Intuitive4-7 years 3 Concrete Operations7-11 years 4 Formal Operations11-15 years Piaget hypothesised that these stages differ not only in the amount of information acquired in each but also in the quality of knowledge and understanding at that stage When a child has been exposed to relevant types of experiences and reached an appropriate level of maturation he or she progresses to the next stage of development SECTION 3 OBJECTIVES AND HYPOTHESIS 32 OBJECTIVES To research and present a review of Piagets stages of cognitive development To develop tests and experiments that will determine the period of thought the subject To test observe and assess the stage of development of CH4 To interpret data and make conclusions based on the theory of Jean Piaget 31 HYPOTHESIS According to Piagets theory of cognitive development the subject
