Art Response Paper The Impressionist painters were known for their ability to capture any moment swiftly yet fully onto their canvas surfaces The Impressionist painters became quite popular in the 1870s and 1880s and were found mainly throughout Paris Among the well-known painters of the Impressionism Frederic Bazille was known as an early French Impressionist painter Throughout his young career as a painter Bazille created many wonderful pieces such as the Pink Dress and the Beach at Sainte Adresse The latter painting can be found in the High Museum of Art in Atlanta Georgia and truly defines the qualities of an impressionist work Bazille painted the Beach at Sainte Adieste in 1865 The painting was orginally titled Marine as it does portray the image of the seascape The work was painted through the medium of oil on canvas and has the dimensions of 60 x 140 inches The painting depicts the Normandy coast perhaps in the early morning Bazille has used the sketchy style that defines impressionism but the scene is not as abbreviated as Claude Monets Impression Sunrise if the two pieces were to be compared Bazilles piece displays an earthy coast against calm blue water which is further toned with the golden rays of the sun The sun however is not pictured in the scene Sailboats populate the water with the majority of them in the distant and the exception of one large sailboat found within the foreground Toward the far left the rendering of an industrious city or town is created Upon observing the mass of land the eye is led further down to the left corner where a dark figure stands on the beach Closer to this figure pieces of wood and debris clutter the left foreground There is a balance between the amount of sky present with the amount of the water and land present The sky is made up of a large mass of clouds which is
