On January 21 1793 the people of France executed their king Louis XVI because he had not fulfilled his promise to the people that he said he would which was to keep them happy In the epic tale written by William Golding Lord of the Flies explores this same idea The castaways were content with the democracy that they had established until they realized that they werent happy anymore Then a boy named Jack took the angry renegades under his wing and began to start his own type of dictatorship where he had all of the power In the end however this seem to be safe-haven almost ended up killing all of the children This and the French Revolution are perfect examples of how all people need to be happy in a government if it is to exist furtherDemocracy worked well for the boys on the island early in their adventure They were voting and agreeing on many different issues that happened to come up and they were following the rules that they had established to keep people from hurting each other As Golding wrote on Page 22 Lets have a voteYesVote for chiefLets voteBut after that there were only a few scenes of voting and everyone agreeing to the rule of the conch This was because the kids werent getting anything out of being part of that government In essence voting and strict laws are what make up democracy Without either of these you dont really have democracy anymoreAfter a while most of the boys felt the need that the rules that they had established earlier didnt mean as much as they did in the beginning so they start to stray away from total democracy Jack says something on page 42 that marks the very beginnings of the idea of democracy beginning to fade away He says The conch doesnt count on top of the mountainso you shut up talking to Piggy Jack says
