No Civil War There may not have been a Civil War if the Northern colonies had the same agriculture as the South Even the Revolution may not have taken place if this was true It took a long time before the North convinced the South to take part in the Revolution Originally some of the reasons stated for why we were going to break off from England included items against slavery They had to be removed if the South was to join the fight Had the North needed slaves for large plantations like those in the South they obviously would not have objected to the idea of slavery If they had fought the Revolution there would have not been a Civil War Both sides would have needed slaves So the war would have been started over something other than slavery It would have been extremely hard to start over the issue of slaves There may not have even been a Revolution at all Most of the things the British did that began us on the road to revolution were in the North The Boston Massacre is just one example Excessive taxation burdened the colonists and angered them It was also the North that objected more strongly to the British rule with outburts like the Boston Tea Party Had farming been the Northern colonies main source of income things would have been different Like the South they probably would not have been as opposed to the English We would most likely still be part of Britain today
