Good morning colleagues Welcome to the annual Gympie Psychology seminar I am Dr Josh Thurlow from the Queensland University of Technology I have done research of this type for the Brisbane Institute of Psychology for 4 years until I received an invitation to continue my research skills further at QUT This morning I will be sharing my research on two patients I have been working with in the past few months The two patients have a common illness This illness is a form of schizophrenia commonly known as a split personality Mark Marchand is a middle aged man who is now at a mental institute due to the illness he suffers Before he was referred to the institute he was working the brigadier general in secret defense force that was called Inner Delta in Fort Delta outside Boston city A deep underlying depression coupled with a sense of guilt and overwhelming loss form the basis of his psychosis The other patient that I have been working with is in his 40s Mickey Stallings was the neighbourhood handy man doing odd jobs He is not married and is perceived by everyone as a friendly neighbourhood person His excitement and memories from his past draw him back to the covered up life of his youth which he slips into oftenMark Marchand felt he was responsible for his sons death Due to this Mark is depressed and believes he is Ben his son He views life often through his sons eyes He feels guilt that himself and his son were never able to talk freely and often looks and judges himself through his sons eyes He believes the institute that he is currently enrolled in is a school that his father which is actually himself was sent to and he is training to be a Brigadier General He generally keeps to himself but writes a lot on a journal he keeps I am able find a lot about
