The essay I read Arm wrestling with my father by Brad Manning is about a father and son and how they grew to show each other affection In this essay Manning used tone purpose title and evidence to establish the effectiveness of the story His purpose was clear and easy for people my age to understand The aspect that made the essay effective is when Mannings father hugged him good bye and said I love you pg 149 instead of giving him the usual handshake In this essay Manning and his father have a very special relationship through mostly physical bonding They never had or shared emotions with each other As Manning got older him and his father began to realize and show their love with each other They failed to realize that the love they have for each other has always been there the whole time they just showed it in the different activities they do The audience of this essay is college students my age The essay is written very well and is easy to read The essay is easy to understand and makes you want to keep reading on and on The purpose of the essay is to show that you can show your emotions in many different ways People can change over time and begin to show the love they really have for you Manning showed how his father changed from just having a physical relationship with him playing baseball and arm wrestling all the time to hugging him and saying I love you pg 149 Mannings father would never write to him but would attach articles from the newspaper to what
