Throughout life it is easy to get into a rut while you procrastinatechanging your bad habits however once you take the opportunitiespresented it might just change you forever Changes may appear inunexpected ways sometimes starting gradually while others are suddenThis evolution is presented in the film Finding Forrester directed byGus Van Sant As the movie unravels it displays William Forester as apreviously world renowned author ending up mentoring Jamal Wallace withhis literary skills As he helps the young boy William develops arelationship with him and begins to learn and understand life longlessons that change his life forever These alterations in William canbe displayed through the developmental changes within hischaracteristicsInitially William Forester is the type of man that no one wants toeither become or associate with as he lives a shut in life Forresterwas known to be a mysterious old man that stared down at the worldaround from his apartment above He observed life instead of living hisown life to the fullest because of his social anxiety The only personthat ever came and left his forgotten home was a businessman thatdropped off his medications laundry groceries and other essentialsupplies the old man may have needed With these weekly deliveriesWilliam Forrester never needed to leave his apartment in whichdemonstrates isolation cutting himself off from the rest of the worldWith the one regular visitor being a man with parcels it isunderstandable that Forrester finds himself with no friends indicatingthat he is a hermit With his undesirable and unadventurous life he hasbecome a grumpy man displayed when he slams his front door in Jamalsface and yells at him from inside The movie highlights three bolts onhis apartment door implying that he is a protective man During hisself inflicted confinement he is alone and selfishly keeps hisintellectual talents to himself instead of sharing his writing with theworld valuing privacy rather than exposure This introversion is shownwhen he would not answer any of Jamals personal questions asked unlessit had educational relevance
