Throughout the book The Acts of King Arthur and his Noble Knights by John Steinbeck Merlin the famous wizard proves himself to be a valuable character to the plot and to the other characters around him Through his actions Merlin becomes a powerful force in the lives of manyFirstly Merlin helps those around him achieve their wishes and goals Merlin helps King Uther get his wish to sleep with Igraine Sir Ulfius a noble knight of Uther Pendragon was asked to search for Merlin and bring him back to Uther I am also Merlin he said And if King Uther will promise me the reward I wish I shall give him what his heart desires And the gift I wish will be more to his honor and profit then to mine 9 He offers a deal to Uther showing his openness towards helping Uther In his deal he demands the conceived child must be given to him so he can find a proper home for the child to be raised in Merlin being able to see the future knows that this is the best for the child and shows his level of responsibility and the concern he had for the future of England Moreover Merlins time on Earth has taught him many things including how to be wise in his words and his actions Merlin explains one of the many lessons he has learned regarding justice and fate to Balin Misfortune is not fair fate is not just but they exist just the same 76 Already knowing how he is going to die when Merlin saw Nyneve he knew there was no way to escape his fate and accepted his destiny After explaining to Arthur the King questions why Merlin hasnt tried to save himself and Merlin shows what he has learned from his years of studying Because I am wise In the combat between wisdom and feeling wisdom never wins I have told you
