After 56 years its finally over Now I can die in peace Ill no longer have this burden of fighting this case Darrel Parker exclaimed after spending 14 unnecessary years in prison Just like those convicted in Salem for being witches Parker was wrongfully convicted During the witch hunts in Salem Massachusetts over one hundred innocent people were jailed even killed for being witches In the play The Crucible by Arthur Miller he explains that the only way for these innocent people to be freed was to confess even though it was a lie The innocent were questioned till they cracked under pressure and falsely confessed Similarly so did Darrel Parker in 1955 The events in Parkers case are similar to those in The Crucible in that both involve wrongly convicted people and false confessions Darrel Parkers life took an unexpected turn when he was wrongly convicted of the brutal inhumane murder of his wife Nancy Parker in 1955 As it turns out the police did in fact question another man by the name Wesley Peery But unfortunately Peery was release a few hours later Witnesses had clearly identified a car matching one owned by Peery outside the Parkers home the night of the murder Also Peery even CONFESSED to murdering Nancy but his lawyers withheld his confession till after he died Clearly Mr Parker was in fact innocent But yet he still went to jail Parker is not the only one who was wrongly convicted Although it was centuries before Parkers case people went to jail for crimes they did not commit during the Salem Witch Trials
