It is often stated that life is what you make it but what if life was pre-determined for you every aspect of your life already written in the pages of destinies book This was in fact the case for Odysseus in the epic Greek poem The Odyssey written by Homer Throughout Odysseuss journey he overcame a series of events which beckon one to believe that he is tempted forgiving focused and intelligent However no matter what obstacles Odysseus encounters his heart remains true to one aspiration Fortunately my life is what I decide to make it and my final outcome is dependent upon the choices I make now Odysseuss Odyssey reflects my lifes journey in several ways and closely resembles my inner-most characteristicsTemptation is an obstacle in which we all encounter more than once in our lifetime For me Temptation reached its peak when I began my freshman year of high school In addition to the many changes physically that I was experiencing alcohol along with other peer pressures were introduced to me as well During that time in my life I was also dealing with other issues at home which most likely added to my vulnerability at that time Who would have known from that point on I would spend the next two years of my life learning from my mistakes and maturing into the person I am today Throughout that chapter of my life I struggled to steer my life in the direction toward success and dignity I admit at times I was more Apollonian than Dionysian but have now set the scale even always putting responsibility before freedom This is comparable to Odysseus encounter with the enticing Sirens Circe warned It will be the Sirens you meet firstand they entrance all visitors Whoever unaware comes close and hears the Sirens voice will nevermore draw near his wife his home his infants hell not share such
