Our groups book of choice was The Stranger by Albert Camus If you are unfamiliar with the book the main character is Meursault and takes place in French Algiers He goes on to commit a murder and the story is split into two parts that focus on Meursaults first person view before and after the crime I personally did not find the plot to be enjoyable The book tends to focus on very mundane things on multiple occasions At one point the book talks about a strange woman Meursault has dinner with She is never mentioned in the book again and I cant think of any reason why that is significant to the story My one and only favorite part of the book was when Raymond Masson and Meursault take a walk on the beach While on their walk they encounter a group of Arabian men One of which is the brother of a girl Raymond used to beat They get into a fight and Raymond and Masson get cut up badly after one of them drew a knife They head home but Meursault stays on the beach Shortly after he is attacked by the man with the knife and he shoots and kills him with four shots to the chest Id say the fights were my favorite part because that was all of the action in the bookWhat pulled me in was how unorthodox the main character Meursault was He is basically emotionless and psychologically detached from the things going on around him He doesnt care that his mother died that Marie loves him or that he killed a man It made me interested how his part in the story would play out I would recommend it to anyone who likes quick reads and likes books that hold room for a lot of discussions such as the morals and attitude of Meursault
