I chose to use images from Somalia the country where I was born and raised until the age of 13I will explain the reasons for choosing the 2 pictures and how they relate to my culture The first picture shows a young boy holding a rocket propelled grenade When I look at this picture I see a child soldier who was probably recruited against his will In Somalia the Islamist militia Al-Shabaabis forcing these innocent young children to do terrible things They are turning them into killers and most are too young to resist I believe that children are innocent and need protection The child soldiers basic rights are being abused in many different ways by being forced to fight For example they might be involved in an extremely brutal situation that no child should be involved in From these images it can be seen that children also become child soldiers because of widespread poverty It would appear seems that these children often do not have a choice as they are not in education Since I presume their parents do not have jobs to provide food the children have to do whatever they can to survive Aries 1962 stated that children should be protected from the harsh realities of the adult world Children who go to war suffer mentally physically emotionally and socially The lives of such children are badly affected and as adults it is hard for them to live a normal lifeThe image portrays to me the loss of control in Somalia because children as young as 10 are fighting especially orphaned children When I look at this image I feel heartbroken I feel powerless and I think something should be done The child looks lost like he is doing what he has been told I think this image is not something that is seen as shocking by many Somalis in Somalia because of the fact that the country has been lawless for
