Things in life can be tough or unfair but whats extremely tough is dealing with what could have been If people do things theyd rather not do at the end of the day they wont wonder what could have been In many novels the author gives the message to their readers that there will be times where the worst has to be done and the character would not want to do it In the novel Phoenix Rising by Karen Hesse we see many characters experience harsh situations Gran stated Sometimes you have to do things youd rather not dop18 In this novel this quote can connect mostly to Ezra Granand NyleFirst being sick ruins people It makes them weak tired and sensitive Ezra a black haired 15 year old boy suffered from radiation leading to illness during the Meltdown at Cookshire Ezra had overcome many obstacles like recovering from radiation sickness overcoming his fear of radiation and having guilt from the death of his father These are things that many people especially teenagers would not want to go through Ezra had to use up a lot of effort to recover the way he did throughout the novel to stop his fear of radiation He must have the ability to leave his room and go outside the house during his recovery Ezra had to live for a long time with radiation sickness Everyday he improved his abilities of getting out of bed and he was finally able to be more active than usual Ezra had a lot of guilt because of what he said to his dad Ezra stated I told my father if anything ever went wrong if there was ever an accident it would be his faultp140 Ezra had a lot of guilt because something did go wrong and he told his father it was his fault Unfortunately Ezras father died through the accident of the nuclear plant When Gran stated Sometimes you have
