1 In the beginning chapters of Things Fall Apart Okonkwo the main characters life was haunting because of many bad choices made by his father Living in the Umuofia clan his father grew up to encounter a large lump sum of debt with the other villagers Okonkwos father Unoka used other clan members to succeed in borrowing thousands of cowries from other village members Okonkwo was terrified of the amount of cowries his father was borrowing and not returning the favor of repaying the many villagers Unoka was a poor man so he did not own any crops animals and was not good at supplying for his family when he had the money to do so Okonkwo did not like the way his father stole and used others He wanted to change all of this upon Unokas death Okonkwo had to prove that he would not be like his father so he became a warrior farmer clansman and provided for his three wifes and children very well As a grown man Okonkwo was happy with his urge become the man his father could not be Okonkwo then had a son Nwoye who was very lazy Okonkwo was very scared at the fact of Nwoye ending up like Unoka Being scared and knowing what the outcome would be Okonkwo tried his hardest to not let his son become like his father Okonkwos life throughout the few beginning chapters of Things Fall Apart were haunting to the point where it changed the rest of his life2 The life differences between huts in the Umuofia clan compared to my neighborhood contrast in multiple ways The way of dealing with argument or anger differs between the two In the Umuofia clan if two villages were angered with each other they will have a war Okonkwo didnt want this horrible incident to happen so they found a compromise The other clan gave Okonkwo a 15-year-old boy as a peace offering
