It was Christmas morning my alarm clock went off Well wish it could be Christmas every day came a song from the late eighties I turned it off sat up in bed and lit up a cigarette It was 330am and still dark outside Trying to be quiet I slowly got out of bed and with my eyes still closed went into the bathroom and turned the taps on the bath I proceeded to the kitchen where I filled the kettle with water and switched it on to boil I lived in a ground floor maisonette with my boyfriend and an old friend from school I remember the way everything always seamed louder in the mornings and when you were trying to be quiet you were making things only louder The kettle had boiled and I made my tea not too strong and with two sugars just the way I liked it I sat on the sofa for a while and drank my tea whilst having another cigarette and then I went and had my bath As I lay in the bath I was listening to the sound of the dripping tap and the noise of men breathing in their sleep It was almost in rhythm I dried myself and went to get dressed I put on my uniform which consisted of a white blouse navy skirt and jacket to match On my jacket I pinned my name badge which read DILLONS in big red writing and underneath in smaller writing Manager then under that was my name Sarah Nealson I finished my tea picked up my keys one bunch were the keys to the shop and the other were my house keys opened the door which squeaked an eerie squeak at that time in the morning and closed the door behind me BANG The wind had caused thy door to slam there must have been a window open
