8When it comes gaining weight some people may not realize how big of afactor liquid calories play a role in the current obesity epidemic Aliquid calorie would include a soda pop soft drink fruit juice and ahigh-calorie sweetened beverage Sugar-sweetened beverages are said topromote obesity by virtue of their low satiety and high-added sugarcontent5 All of these sugary liquids appear to get overlooked whenworrying about calorie consumption in a diet In recent studiesresearchers examined the relationship between beverage consumption amongadults and weight change and found that weight loss was positivelyassociated with a reduction in liquid calorie consumption and liquidcalorie intake had a stronger impact on weight than solid calorieintake1 Trouble is few people pay attention to what they drink eachday or even realize that the calories in beverages can sabotage even thehealthiest of diets2 This paper will give justification to why thesecalories have contributed to a rise in obesity and the health risksour bodies could suffer from these drinksThe main reason why individuals are gaining so much weight is due to theamount of sugar and the overlooked calories they contain in the liquidform Our bodies are not made to be able to consume and breakdown alarge mount of sugar daily The typical American diet derives almost 50of its energy from added sugars7 Truth is when we consume sugars theybreakdown like starches would in our body Similar to starches theyrelease sugar into your bloodstream and as with starches you tasteonly a fraction of the sugar in beverages6 Since liquids and solids areso different our bodies obviously treat them that way when digested Aswe chug back a high-sweetened soda most of the sugars do not even comein contact with our taste buds This is problem causing since manyindividuals are not realize exactly how much sugar they are putting intotheir system Physiological mechanisms by which the body senses ingestedcalories are said to be less precise for energy contained in liquidbeverages as opposed to solid foods7 When
