Prostitution is defined as in the event a person male or female asks for a payment to commit a sexual act Many people believe that prostitution should be regulated and legalized They believe that if it were to be legalized then there would be less disease spread less crime and more personal freedom The opposing views believe that by making prostitution legal it breaks the law of the illegalization of torture and cruel inhumane or degrading treatment They also believe that physical and mental enjoyments will get altered because of violence disease unwanted pregnancies unsafe abortions and diseases The American Civil Liberties Union ACLU state that many of the laws against prostitutes are focused on females They say that these laws are one of a more direct form of discrimination against females In a nation built around freedom and non-discrimination there should not be any reason to have a major law limiting those such things Women who get charged with a prostitution crime gets stigmatized and looked down upon Men charged with the same crime goes unnoticed The ACLU also argue that the prostitution laws are a violation of an individuals rights of privacy Any sexual act between two consenting adults should only involve them no matter if the act is for pleasure or payment John Bambenek Executive Director of the Tumaini Foundation argues the legalization of prostitution by stating how he believes that prostitutes increase the risk of spreading diseases The prostitutes get greatly exposed to diseases which in turn could spread the disease to many different people He also debates that a redefinition to prostitution is a way to make sex trafficking acceptable Studies have shown an increase of drug abuse with prostitutes It is difficult to determine whether or not the cause of the drug abuse is because they are prostitutes or if prostituting has made them use drugs Bambenek states in his argument that the legalization and regulation will only increase
