Beowulfs First Battle I remember it like it happened yesterday My first battle I was almost thirteen years of age My friends and I were in the village watching the storyteller perform When my mother came screaming at the top her lungs telling me to get to my house and the other boys to get to theirs Everyone rushed towards their house knowing that it was time for the beast to appear Everyone shut the doors behind them There was absolute silence in the village Everything was so still that the village looked like a town uninhabited for years The demon came once every week to prey on our livestock It had been coming to our village for three fortnights The demon looked like a wolf only bigger and much deadlier It was powerful and ruthless It killed our livestock with one blow of its sharp claw then devoured it savagely with its razor sharp teeth Many brave men had tried to protect the village but only in vein They only became prey to the beasts monstrous appetite The whole village feared the demon but I wasnt afraid of it Sure the beast looked strong and evil but I was quicker This time the beast came to my fathers livestock We watched in horror as it laid waste to my fathers hard work until my father could not take it anymore He picked up his sword and shield and charged at the beast My father was a great fighter but the demon was too strong for him My mother and I watched in disbelief my fathers tragic death We ran outside after the beast left The only thing that was left of my father was his torn bloody clothes and his sword I was hysterical there and then I picked up his sword and promised to avenge his death I followed the beasts tracks they were red from all the
