She Was A Phantom Of Delight A Biographical Interpretation Bonnie J Thompson English 200-001 October 18 2000 She Was a Phantom of Delight A Biographical Interpretation By Bonnie Thompson There are several ways to read and interpret poetic works One of them is interpretation through biographical information Once one embarks on the works of an author it is nearly impossible to not use this type of interpretation It is only natural for an author to put something of himself in his works and many times the works end in a description of his feelings emotions desires and outlooks Biographical information can either hinder or aid in the reading of a text Using this information to interpret a text may lead the reader to a conclusion that closely resembles what the authors original intent was when writing it Biographical information may also lead to a completely different conclusion on the part of the reader It is up to the individual reading the text to decide whether the biography of an author is needed to interpret the sentiment expressed by his or her words Biographical information adds an aura of emotion that would not be in this poem if the reader did not know it was written for his wife As is the case with She Was A Phantom of Delight most of Wordsworths poetry expresses some moral sentiment and a rather poignant moment in his life Biographical information greatly aids in the reading of this piece The fact that he is married to a wonderful woman whom he seems to greatly love makes his words seem more personal The reader can better understand the strength of the emotions that Wordsworth felt and therefore tried to convey
