Robert Kennedy the United States Attorney General 1925-1968 once said Tragedy is a tool for living to gain wisdom not a guide by which to live Arguably one of the greatest tragedies of all time was the holocaust The genocide resulted in over six million deaths and ended with a bitter war that killed even more people The pain that was endured as a result of intolerance and hate is a tragedy that must never be forgotten Through the teaching of tolerance love and acceptance as well as remembering the victims and the story this horrid time will never be forgotten or hopefully repeated As time goes on it gets easier to forget Its a simple fact of logic and yet in some cases results in dire problems In the case of the holocaust forgetting could result in the repetition of this catastrophe In this day and age with the technology and knowledge that is available that would be completely unacceptable Teachers parents and adults in general have a responsibility to future generations to teach love tolerance and acceptance of different people and cultures By doing this they will instill the values that are needed to prevent prejudice and hate Adolf Hitlers hate of Jewish people as well as other people with disabilities is what sparked the prejudice that led to the catastrophe that the world remembers today Morals and beliefs are what form our character and it is people who influence childrens and even other adults character In order to remember the holocaust people must counteract the morals and beliefs that caused it Preventing a future holocaust is part of remembering because it shows that a lesson has been learnedIf something is to be remembered it must be told in the first place In order to be remembered the holocaust should be first taught in schools starting at a young age and followed up on as they grow up I was first taught about
