For every problem there is a solution This is how Jonathan AFoley director of the Institute on the Environment at the University ofMinnesota think to solve the problem between increasing the food supplyand sustain the planet at the same time The fact is that the populationwill increase by two billion or three billion by 2050 This means thatthe food supply has to double the next forty years to feed thesecatastrophe population Using the current techniques for food productionwill imply the destruction of the earth because data from all over theworld show how agriculture is damaging almost every aspect of theenvironment Agriculture already consumes a large portion of earthsland surface and many habitats and ecosystems has been destroyingbecause the agriculture is using a lot of fresh water polluting riversand oceans and contaminating the air To begin with society already forms close to 38 percent of theearths land surface Much of the remainders are lands that are coveredby dessert or ice For this reason the society cant expand any morethe agriculture field The people have to work with wheat they havebecause if they continue the expansion of agriculture not good land willbe left for the habitat of animals and this will also increase carbondioxide emission from clearing land The second problem is fooddistribution Only 60 percent of the worlds crops are for humanconsumption The rest is 35 percent for animal feeds and 5 percentbetween biofuels and industrial products The other issue of foodproduction is the meat Feeding crops to animals reduce the worlds foodsupply Furthermore 30 kilograms of grain make one kilogram of edibleboneless beef These amounts are alarming because the population cangain more energy eating the 30 kilogram of gain instead of eating just 1kilogram of beef According to Foley 2800 cubic kilometers of watersper years accounts for the irrigation This is 70 percent of the amountof fresh water using for humans That is why many important
