Censorship in media is defined as supervision and control of the information and ideas that are circulated among the people within a society 1 In the novels Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury and Animal Farm by George Orwell it is found that censorship is a major theme in both novels Censorship is conveyed through the plot characters and use of allusions and irony throughout both novelsThe plot of these novels expresses the theme of censorship very well because in both novels the people and animals in the societies are manipulated into believing the information that is put out by their leaders In Animal Farm the plot shows that overtime the pigs began to take control over the farm by running the farmer off renaming the farm and creating a set of rules in which all the animals must follow Later in this novel one of the pigs Napoleon began to alter the rules for his benefit but no animal said anything because like said in the novel with their superior knowledge it was natural that they pigs should assume leadership 2 For example the pigs began to sleep in beds declare death sentences against other animals drink alcohol walk on their hind legs and began wearing clothes which were all against the original seven commandments This shows that the pigs were trying to slowly take power and influence over the other animals In Fahrenheit 451 firemen are sent to start fires instead of putting them out because if a person has books in their home their books must be burned according to law This may be because the people are spending so much time watching television and listening to their shells radios that they dont have time to spend on reading or it could be that people will begin to think and have ideas that they may act on which isnt what their society leaders wish for The fact that they may not want any
