According to Pablo Picasso Every child is an artist The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up In everyday situations once a person gets experienced about something they are no longer nave it This is not the situation in Langston Hughess One Friday Morning It is a story of Nancy a nave young girl who discovers the bitter truth about her world when she is denied an art scholarship to further her education at an art school because she is black Although Nancy moves from the south to the Midwest she never thinks her skin color would determine the way people related to her She thinks because her parents worked hard to achieve their education goals in black colleges her dedication to excellence would change peoples perception of her skin color She forgets that she is black and thinks that everyone in her high school will accept her identity but that is not the way of the world Even after she is disappointed in her hopes of an art scholarship Nancy refuses to see that she could always be a victim of racismWhen one gets too immersed in his or her environment we sometimes forget the most important things We see that when Nancy Lee sometimes forgot she was colored herself She liked her classmates and her school Hughes 1204 She was drawn by familiarity of her environment and forgets about life outside the school walls Inexperience creates naivet and naivet results in wrong decisions One would think that because Nancy moved from the south which was about to undergo social upheaval in 1957 to the Midwest she should have seen or heard of discrimination But her inexperience led her to include her pride in her heritage as a black American girl in her artwork Accomplishments cannot disannul stigmatization of a race or ethnic No matter the achievements of Americans with Europe heritage they would always be seen as racist against
