Last summer I had the opportunity to go to Camp Ozark a Christian based summer camp When I arrived at camp I met my counselor who embodies many of the identified characteristics of leadershipEven after camp was through she continued in making an impact on my life by regularly visiting with me at lunch These visits show that she cares and through them she has helped me build my trust my confidence and even my faith To be a truly impactful leader you need to be a motivator to those around you but you also need to understand the conditions that drive their motivations This is important for a leader to build and maintain relationships and in doing all these things it reveals her to be an authentic leader as well Being authentic is important in a leader because it tells us that they are a real person with no hidden agenda and are true to themselves An authentic leader is approachable reliable and trustworthy it is very important to be able to trust your leaders An authentic leader does not act one-way in private and then another way in public they genuinely want to serve others through their leadership A leader who is authentic truthfully leads from their head and heartYou cannot lead with just your head or just your heart With leading with just your heart you would only be able to answer based on someone being happy and leading with just your head will not have you building trust and relationships By allowing your head and heart to lead you it truly shows that you have the best interest in mind of those you are leading For example my camp counselor has put herself in the position to positively impact students by continuing to build the relationships with them Rather than choosing a job that would not put herself out as a role model to youthThrough my observations all of these traits
