Can God Sin When I talk about God Im talking about the traditional Christian theologian belief of god That is God is an Omni God God is an all good all knowing all-powerful and perfect in every way god Given this definition of God we run into a question that seems to contradict itself and causes many problems This question being Can God Sin Ill be looking at both views of at the answer to this question Some reasons why God cancannot sin Consequences of God being able to not being able to sin One reason it is thought that it must be the case that God can sin is that God is all-powerful If God is an all-powerful being then surely God must have the power to sin I have the power to commit numerous sins I am not all-powerful God is all-powerful Therefore a more powerful being than me If I have the power to commit numerous amounts of sins then surely so should God as he is more powerful than I am For example If I were to steal my neighbors TV purely for my own entertainment wants It is quite clear that this is an act of sin If I am powerful enough to commit this act of stealing my neighbors TV then surely God is powerful enough to commit an act that results in a similar value of sin One response to this type of argument An argument that is based on the evidence that we are powerful enough to sin therefore God must be powerful enough to sin is that our ability to sin or even our ability for us to be tempted to sin is not a power that we have Our ability to be tempted to sin is a power that something else holds over us Some would say that something is the Devil For example if I were to steal my neighbors
