Issue 19 Is Affirmative Action Necessary to Achieve Racial Equality in the United StatesBack in the early 1960s President John F Kennedy introduced the term affirmative action It was his approach to readdress discrimination that had occurred in the means of Civil Rights Laws President Lyndon B Johnson developed and enforced this program to appraise racial equality and the social status of women At the beginning of integration Affirmative Action was needed due to societys racial preferences to uphold an education and to obtain a decent job in the work force African Americans needed an extra boost in the world so they could create a proper social status in that time But as weve transitioned into the 21st century African Americans have gained the credentials to do anything in life to become successful in America today Due to our come up since the early 1960s I believe that the African American race no longer needs the Affirmative Action system anymore We as a race can stand on our own two feet now by reason of non-racial discrepancy and equality in AmericaRobert Staples and Roger Clegg express their different out looks on whether or not Affirmative Action is necessary to achieve racial equality in the United States today Staples standpoint of this issue is yes we do still need Affirmative Action in the United States because he believes that the program was initiated to provide equal economic opportunities for minorities and women But in Roger Cleggs supposition he says no Affirmative Action isnt needed in the United States today because he feels that the African American race has made its name in todays society I must say that his opinion displays exactly the same sentiments that I was thinking America no longer needs the Affirmative Action systemIn his argument Staples states All this occurred at a time when white males held an almost total monopoly of all top and mid-level professional and managerial jobs
