Having Our Say In the book Having Our Say by Sarah L and A Elizabeth Delany and Amy Hill Hearth main characters Bessie and Sadie Delany can compare in many ways They hold a very strong position on life long issues such as religion racial equality and valiancy These similarities cause the sisters to cope with each other problems and anything they encounter The religious point of view shared by the sisters can be compared in many ways Since the sisters lived to be 106 and 104 they have lived through a lot of events Every morning directly after they wake both sisters bless the day And the first thing I do when I open my eyes is smile and then I say Thank you Lord for another day 288 From the moment these girls were born they learned to serve the Earth and its people with masses of respect Both Bessie and Sadie are raised to think they will not get into heaven if they do not treat everyone who deserves it with respect In the end of the book Bessie says Im thinking Maybe Ill get into Heaven after all Why Ive helped a lot of folks even some white folks299 This is why I believe Bessie and Sadie have a similar religious point of view First and foremost these two African American women have experienced a lot of racial encounters their view on racial equality is backed by decades of experience These sisters lived through numerous dilemmas such as the Jim Crow Law age Jim Crow laws were laws that restricted the confrontation between blacks and whites In short these laws were to be said separate but equal Sadie says Jim Crow was an ugly complicated business99 During this time many lives changed Instead of riding in any bus seat eating somewhere or even using a water fountain there was a law against it The reason they passed those Jim Crow
