Love is a word that never changes It means the bond that two people share is so strong they cannot live without it The meaning of love will never change the view and understanding of love is always changing though Societys view and understanding change with the times Love used to be held up on a pedestal Nothing was as important as love and marriage Now marriage can be thrown away for reasons that can be worked through but the people involved would rather give up then try As the times change so do people morals and their views on what love should be It has started to skew from what love really is supposed to be Two essays that show similar but different views on love are Why I Want A Wife by Judy Syfers Brady and The Power of Marriage by David Brooks Why I Want A Wife is Bradys way of showing the expectations of a wife She uses a sarcastic tone to show just how ridiculous these expectations are The Power of Marriage is Brooks view on gay marriage and whether it should be legalized or not He takes a stand on why gay marriage should be legalized by pointing out the failures of heterosexual marriage Each essay has a different topic but they share the same theme loveBrooks is for homosexual marriage He shows this by taking stabs at heterosexual marriage and showing that homosexual marriage can be just as strong if not stronger than heterosexual marriage A gay or lesbian couple may love each other as deeply as any two people but when you meet a member of such a couple at a party he or she then introduces you to a partner a word that reeks of contingency Brooks 281 He means that it should not matter the gender of the couple all that matters is how love is shared between the couple The love two people
