McCarthys claim compared to the Salem Witch trial is when they both dealt with the community turning on each other due to false accusations In the Salem Witch trials Abigail is the one accusing other towns people of their witchcraft In almost all cases she does not have any evidence except the play she puts on for the community She starts to use fear to keep people who know the truth from speaking out and she accuses anyone she hasnt already if they challenged her and say shes lying Joseph McCarthy happened when Joseph McCarthy started falsely accusing people of being a communist a lot of them lost their jobs and ruined their reputations for the rest of their lives Most of the accusations had no proof to back them up and yet got such main stream publicity by the media that most of the people accused names where never fully cleared Could society have stopped the claims of the Salem witch trials and McCarthyism Yes They definitely could have During this time there were few in the press willing to stand up against McCarthy and the anti-Communist machineMiller Even though some were afraid to say anything But they still noticed something was going on on the inside Of course not everything was as rosy as it seemed Beneath the pristine exterior a small group of critics and nonconformists pointed out the flaws in a suburbia they believed had no soul a government they believed was growing dangerously powerful and a lifestyle they believed was fundamentally repressed And much of America was still segregated2 They didnt want the government to get too powerful Edward Murrow and Joseph McCarthy are very similar because they both had strong beliefs and didnt give up on their beliefs Well why or how could they stop him
