Crevecoeurs renowned question of what then is the American this new man has been prevalently interpreted throughout the second half of this course I found the American this new man to be a strong and dedicated individual dedicated to the prosperity of his country and unified with its people He expressed love for all his fellow countrymen without discrimination and is motivated to protect our most precious ideals freedom equality and the right to express ones own individuality without the fear of consequence Throughout our short and recent history America has been subject to many struggles we have faced the terrors of war civil tension and despicable acts of terrorism Despite such turbulent times we have risen from the ashes to progress our nation and its people to heights never imagined possible forever pursuing that shining city upon the hill This idealistic level of perfection has helped continue the progression of our nation and brought forth people from all over the world in search of the American dream I found our most beloved ideals prevalent in the song America by Neil Diamond I believe his song illustrates this new man the American who stands for freedom and equality for all individuals America represents our citizens welcoming attitude towards the acceptance of men and women from all cultural backgrounds inviting them to share in all that is American The lyrics in his song speak of how people from far and wide are traveling home home to this shiny new place where they can join in the American dream where freedoms light burns warm To me this represents the essence of what this new man has created a place open to all people who take pride in preserving the ideals of our country To supplement his message further Neil Diamonds uses an upbeat and fast paced rhythm which I feel helps communicate the strength and pride we as Americans
