Words That Make You Think There are many words in the American language that make you think of specific images or thoughts What one person thinks of when they hear a word may be completely different from what another person thinks of when hearing the same word Depression is the one word that makes me think of many different definitions There are many ways that depression can be defined and a few of them are a state of mind a time when the economy was low a dent or shallow place and a type of surgery done on the eyes One of the definitions of Depression is an act of depressing or state of feeling sad a psychoneurotic or psychotic disorder marked especially by sadness inactivity difficulty in thinking and concentration a significant increase or decrease in appetite and time spent sleeping feelings of dejection and hopelessness and sometimes suicidal tendencies a reduction in activity amount quality or force a lowering of vitality or functional activity wwwdictionarycom There are more than 18 million adult Americans that suffer from one form or another of a depressive disorder every year which is a distressing 95 percent of the American population There are many different types of mood disorders out of all of the disorders depression is the most common and unfortunately the most misunderstood disorder Some of the symptoms of this disorder are loss of appetite and loss of interest in normal activity Even though the majority of research shows that brain chemical imbalances do cause this condition there are still many people who believe that chronic depression is a sign of a week personality or some major character flaw This fact alone can make seeking help very difficult as many people hesitate to admit this type of weakness to their family friends and doctors It is hard to imagine the suffering and damage that would happen if that amount of people had a major illness
