The American education system is failing to adequately educate its students in comparison to other nations While they have made attempts and changes throughout the past few decades they have not had any success in finding a sound solution On January 8th 2002 the Bush administration enacted the No Child Left Behind Act in an effort to solve this problem It heightened the pressure on schools to have their students perform adequately by requiring students to appear proficient on their yearly standardized testing Statistics show that the act has failed to provide a successful outcome by 2010 38 percent of schools were failing to make adequate yearly progress Education Weekly No Child Left Behind has been found to be ineffective because of its use of standardized testing which only covers a narrow set of skills ultimately this has negatively impacted the quality of teaching in addition the ulterior solutions they provide are proving to be insufficient because of the limited availabilityIn 2002 the Bush administration enacted No Child Left behind in attempts to improve performance in schools The bill outlined President Bushs public education reform agenda proposing the most dramatic changes to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act since its enactment in 1965 Villavicencio According to the state of Washington office of Superintendent of Public Instruction the Elementary and Secondary Education Act emphasized equal access to education and establishes high standards and accountability The goal of the act was to improve the students education and to hold schools as well as the states accountable for the success or failure This was to be measured by issuing standardized testing annually in math and reading as well as science at least once in elementary middle and high school Education Week If the criteria were not met for each year there were repercussions and actions to be made in attempts to improve the schools performance The solutions were presented on a year by year basis depending upon the
