In the short story Everyday Use written by Alice Walker Dee and Maggie are two sisters who share a completely different personality with each other The author created a sense of difference and similarity between these two sisters by the describing their appearances and by their behavior In the story Dee and Maggie are raised in a family but they became very different people Maggie is very unattractive and awkward but Dee is very beautiful looking and very fashioned Since they were young Dee always acts more selfishly then Maggie The author made contrast out of these two sisters to add the color for the story Therefore the story became interesting for readers Author describes Dee is a stylish educated and have strong self-confident person Dee knows her own style by the time when she was sixteen Literacies P699 Her mother even imagined or dreamed hugging with her on TV shows because she has made it and embraces appreciates her mother to support her When she visits her home her mother and sister Maggie cleaned the yard so hard waiting for her In the beginning of the story her mother describes herself as a large big-boned woman with rough man-working hands Literacies P698 But Dee doesnt like it On the other hand Maggie is very skinny and a totally opposite girl to Dee shes very shy uneducated the weak once but generous and kind Maggie gets along with everything she always says yes to everyone and almost never says no She worked very hard with her mother to support her sister Dee to go to college in Austria Maggies role in the story is very like a traditional woman in the society She doesnt speak for herself and not showing her emotions to other people Even when her sister Dee wants the guilt made from their grandmother and her aunt Maggie didnt say anything even inside of her doesnt want to loose the quilt
