In my capacity as one of the new generation of Chinese kids I would beinterested in sharing and talking to my American college mates about thedifferences between the older generation of Chinese and us There aresimilarities and differences that might be worth knowing aboutChina has changed a lot since the reformation that was introduced by thegovernment decades ago Nowadays I live in a wealthy China that mostprevious generations never thought would be possible I can enjoy allkinds of activities that we once used to term western but are now justas ubiquitous in this new China In my free time I can stay in touchwith my friends using wireless broadband just like in any developedsociety Online and mobile social network arrangements for and evites tosinging parties in Karaokes to celebrate our birthdays or visit funfairs or amusement parks are common This pervasive use of technology orprosperity of China is not just limited to recreation as it also coversmany areas including education With this increase in disposable incomemembers of this new generation we find ourselves not only traveling toparts of the world our previous generations only read about This hashad a profound effect on the mindset and attitudes of those born in mygeneration as we have been able to experience the different cultures andeducational systems during our frequent travels abroad This is becauseon top of traveling for fun most kids in my generation we often go onsummer camps based at some of the top American European New Zealandand Australian universities Thus our ability to deal with otherpeoples perceptions of us that are actually detached from who we arehas been nurtured over the years In all honesty many peoplesperceptions of China and the Chinese are not all wrong - it is just thatthose perceptions havent had a chance to be updated yet as China hasntbeen static all these years particularly in the big cities It is inthis small intercultural capacity that I hope to contribute to the lifeon
