In Six Characters in Search of an Author Luigi Pirandello demonstrates how he took advantage of classical drama by creating the difference between the characters and actors in the play Pirandello uses many staging approaches and techniques to merge drama and theater into real life while featuring the shortcomings of drama in emulating life In the beginning of the play the characters are pleading with the manager to take an interest in their story Yet during their plea these characters fight amongst themselves arguing their own perception on the drama they carry within themselves The mother the stepdaughter and the son interrupt the father who begins to tell the story of their drama numerous times It is obvious there are some conflicts between with the characters in this play the main conflict is trying to figure out who instigated the split between the father and mother Real life is not always free from interruptions and conflicts Pirandello brings realism to this play by running without acts scenes or intermissions instead the play is broken up This format illustrates how Pirandello wants to bring realism to the play to bring real life to his play As life is not divided up into scenes or acts each moment contributes to the next without delay Pirandello wants the feeling of reality in this play Therefore to bring realism to Six Characters in Search of an Author the play is left without intermission breaks or acts This illustrates the largest split between life and theater When life is mimicked through art it is limited by the artists interpretation as well as the general restrictions within the artists own ability and control Art can never fully duplicate life on a picture on film in musical notes or on stage Pirandello shows the weakness of art by allowing reality and how these interesting characters interrupted a play while in progress With conflicting interpretations
