Assisted suicide or Euthanasia is a debated issue in our country Many Americans oppose to this notion but one well-known man best associated with this issue is Dr Jack Kevorkian also known as Dr Death There are many different opinions concerning this controversial issue some believing it should be left up to God and others like me believe in ones decision to choose between life and death under certain circumstances In many cases it is difficult to conceive how one would prefer to watch someone deteriorate on a bed with constant medical assistance and supervision In the end however family members are saddened to see them go but the majority are relieved to see them not suffering or vegetating Despite recent opinion polls indicating that about 75 of Americans favor an individuals right to physician-assisted suicide only the state of Oregon allows it And as of now only 35 states have laws that ban this practice of euthanasia When most people talk about assisted suicide they think Kevorkian Dr Kevorkian is currently serving 32 years in a Michigan maximum-security prison for the killing of a patient stricken with bone cancer He documented a man pleading for death because he couldnt take the excruciating pain His body was slowly decomposing in his last months of life were approaching Without him able to fall asleep because of indescribable pain it was best for Dr Kevorkian to fulfill his wishes to die He died the next morning on Kevorkians Suicide Machine This machine is an instrument used by Kevorkian to help put his patient to sleep It is a mask that has a tank filled with carbon dioxide which painlessly kills the patient The word Euthanasia originated from the Greek language eu meaning good and thanatos means death One meaning given to the word is intentional termination of life by another at the request of the person who dies That is the term euthanasia that normally implies
