As one grows one faces many obstacles and challenges in life It is how one reacts to these occurrences that determine our future For one thing people are offered many substances and are faced with the ultimate challenge of accepting or rejecting the substances The one I will speak about in particular are drugs Drugs can be used for medicinal purposes but it also can be used for substance abuse Drugs are best defined as something and often an illicit substance that causes addiction habituation or a marked change in consciousness These substances continue to affect our country as well as the world that we live in If drugs were to be legalized it would cause a big catastrophe Legalizing drugs would definitely increase the usage of drugs which in turn would cause addictions Since it is very easy to obtain drugs people will be more inclined to buy drugs and try them out As a result once people start-using drugs and enjoy them after several times they wont be able to stop themselves because they will become addicted I believe in this theory very strongly after seeing the statistics The 2001 National Household Survey on Drugs said that the relationship between legalization and increased use becomes evident by considering two current legal drugs tobacco and alcohol The number of users of these legal drugs is far greater than the number of users of illegal drugs About 66 million Americans used tobacco at least once a month But less than 16 million Americans used illegal drugs at least once a month The Drug Enforcement Administration DEA said that Overall 55 percent of all youths aged 12 to 17 reported it would be easy to obtain marijuana More than one in four youths felt that it would be easy to obtain crack compared to 25 percent for cocaine 19 percent for LSD and 16 percent for heroin As a result I feel that legalizing other
