Jim's feedback:
"These are good reflections on a trying time. “COVID” should be written in all capital letters. It is good to avoid informal language, such as “messed up.” Referring to a canceled prom, to say “I was looking forward” implies a future prom, so the student should instead write “I had been looking forward.” The second paragraph includes a sentence that is four lines long. This should be simplified, and if it is still too long, then it should be broken into multiple sentences. A person should be able to understand a sentence with minimal effort. Avoid repetition, such as in the first paragraph: “I did not have a choice … and we had no choice.” The essay closes with “… I also made me want …,” where “I” should be “it.” To review a paper before submission gives the writer a chance to find such problems."
