F Scott Fitzgerald grew up and lived comfortably off his mothers inheritance when he was young When he was young he did not have a poor life but was not wealthy either but knew what it was like to be a middle class citizen The first writing to be published was a detective story he wrote when he was thirteen When was in a Catholic prep school called the Newman school Fitzgerald was encouraged to pursue his writing talents by Father Sigourney Fay Then as he got older and went to Princeton he slacked on his schoolwork and was not the most likely candidate to graduate After a time in the Army meeting Zelda Sayre his future wife and writing for a few years Fitzgerald got his fame by writing The Side of Paradise at twenty-four This is not far from his character or the story of The Great Gatsby Jay Gatsby became wealthy around thirty did not do well in college and met his love Daisy Buchanan as a young military officer All of these events are similar to Fitzgeralds own life according to wwwdanliteraturewordpresscom Gatsby immediately fell in love with Daisys aura of luxury grace and charm and lied to her about his own background in order to convince her that he was good enough for her Daisy promised to wait for him when he left for the war but married Tom Buchanan in 1919 while Gatsby was studying at Oxford after the war in an attempt to gain an educationwwwdanliteraturewordpresscom These events are similar but not exactly the same as what happened to Fitzgerald Fitzgerald fell in love with Zelda and was seeking his fortune when he wanted to marry her but Zelda could not wait for Fitzgerald to become wealthy so she broke their engagement Although Zelda did not marry someone else she did wait to accept Fitzgeralds proposal until after the publication of The Side of
